INFORMATION PROVIDED BY THE DVSA AND UK GOVERMENT UPDATED: 19/03/2020

You should still go for your driving or theory test, unless you, someone you live with, your instructor or someone they live with have coronavirus symptoms.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) is a new illness that can affect your lungs and airways. It’s caused by a virus called coronavirus.

The symptoms are:

  • a high temperature – you feel hot to touch on your chest or back
  • a new, continuous cough – this means you’ve started coughing repeatedly

Stay at home for:

  • 7 days from when your symptoms started if you live alone
  • 14 days from the first day someone in your home becomes ill if you live with others

Find out what to do if you have these symptoms on the NHS website.

YOU MUST NOT GO TO YOUR DRIVING TEST OR THEORY TEST IF YOU HAVE TO STAY AT HOME, YOUR TEST WILL NOT GO AHEAD IF YOU HAVE THESE SYMPTOMS.

This applies to all types of theory tests, driving tests and approved driving instructor (ADI) standards checks.

For driving tests, this applies to both you and your driving instructor, or anyone accompanying you in the vehicle.

Use the NHS 111 online Coronavirus service if:

  • you feel you cannot cope with your symptoms at home
  • your condition gets worse
  • your symptoms do not get better after 7 days
