Meet John Denholm
Having previously trained as an ADI in 1997 (wow 27 years ago) with a driving school in North Yorkshire. I remember paying them £1850 and receiving a copy of the Highway Code and a VHS video tape on how to be an ADI (I still have the video tape). Throughout training they gave me NO help or support; I struggled with all aspects of the training. Due to this I made a career change and went on to work for the NHS and Civil Service.
Fast forward to 2018 and I decided to train as an ADI again. I contacted several driving schools and decided to make an appointment with PNG. I met Lee and Dean who seemed very knowledgeable and professional; I was very impressed with their set up.
Soon after I passed my part 1, I started my part 2 training on the 13th of August 2018, passing 1st time. I was on the road as a PDI on the 22nd of October 2018. I was very nervous, but soon settled into my new role and even now, I am enjoying every minute if it. I had supervision from my trainer, Martin Stacey, throughout my journey and I passed my part 3 test on 19th January 2019 with 2 examiners in the car, receiving a Grade A.
In March 2020 the world stopped due to Covid-9 and lockdown was difficult for everyone but the team at PNG ensured to take care of the PNG team in every way they could. Specifically over the last few years, I’ve had some very difficult times in my personal life and the PNG TEAM have always been so consoling through kind words, lovely flowers and general help and support.
This is the 4th consecutive year I have received an Intelligent Instructor Award for North East Instructor of the Year: 2021 & 2022 I won Highly Commended and in 2023 & 2024 Bronze. All of this has been achieved due to the FANTASTIC help and support from the PNG TEAM.
I also love to pop into the PNG head office regularly to see all the friendly staff for a chat, drink coffee and eat donuts.

John Denholm received the ‘Special Recognition’ award at the PNG Instructors Awards for supporting the office by not only assisting improving support we give our instructors but he also supports instructors directly with help and advice. John’s work for charity is an inspiration to everyone in the office.
His next big charity project is his drive from Tyneside to Monaco Grand Prix in May to raise money and awareness for MIND, Cash 4 Kids, and Prostate Cancer UK.
